Brooks Brothers has opened a new flagship store at 195 Broadway, at the corner of Fulton Street in New York's Financial District. The 10,000-square-foot shop spans two floors of the landmark building that once served as the headquarters of the American Telephone & Telegraph Company. The brand marked the opening with a reception and private dinner at Nobu Downtown, next door, on 28 May 2025, and the store's opening was reported on 2 June.

The building was designed by William Welles Bosworth. Brooks Brothers kept original features including marble columns, chandeliers and bronze details. The store carries the full men's and women's collections designed under creative director Michael Bastian, covering tailored clothing and sportswear, and offers made-to-measure tailoring. FashionUnited reported a limited selection of made-to-measure fabrics.

“Brooks Brothers has long been a cornerstone of American fashion, and we are excited to return to the Financial District”

Ken Ohashi, chief executive, Brooks Brothers

An archive on the shop floor

Part of the store is given over to a rotating display drawn from the Brooks Brothers archive. The opening display included a replica of the coat Abraham Lincoln wore at his second inauguration, a 19th-century store mirror, personal belongings of the founder Henry Sands Brooks and his son, and photographs of the company's early shops. The store also sells archival vintage pieces and items available only at this location, including designs from a collaboration with Eye Junya Watanabe Man.

The location has historical weight for the company. Brooks Brothers was founded in 1818 as a single store at Catherine and Cherry Streets in Lower Manhattan. Its previous Financial District store, at Liberty and Trinity, was damaged after the 11 September 2001 attacks, reopened in September 2002 and closed in 2018 when the landlord decided to renovate the building, according to Tribeca Citizen.

The wider store network

Brooks Brothers also has New York stores at Rockefeller Center and on Madison Avenue at 86th Street. FashionUnited reported that the brand has 141 stores in the United States and more than 500 stores, shop-in-shops and outlets across 45 countries. Its long-time flagship at 346 Madison Avenue closed during Ohashi's first year in charge, a decision he later told FashionUnited was the most emotional of that year.

Ohashi said in a statement that the brand had grown consistently every year since 2021. Brooks Brothers was acquired in 2020 by Authentic Brands Group and Simon Property Group and has been part of Catalyst Brands since January 2025.

What it means for buyers

For office workers downtown, the store brings a full Brooks Brothers tailoring offer, including made-to-measure, back to the Financial District for the first time since the Liberty Street store closed in 2018. Made-to-measure means the suit is cut from an existing pattern adjusted to your measurements, which sits between buying off the rack and commissioning a bespoke suit. Our guide to bespoke, made-to-measure and ready-to-wear explains the difference, and our New York tailoring guide covers the city's custom makers.
