  • London

For the English cut and the deepest tradition

Savile Row and the streets around it still set the standard: personal patterns, three or more fittings and houses with two centuries of records. It is the most expensive city here and the slowest, and worth both if you want the real thing.

  • New York

For London-trained cutters without the flight

Savile Row-trained cutters, a Huntsman outpost on West 57th Street and strong made-to-measure. Prices start well below London, but sales tax is added, and a first suit takes two to four months.

  • Hong Kong

For speed and value, with real bespoke too

The Shanghainese tailors of Central cut true bespoke at a fraction of London prices, while Tsim Sha Tsui can turn a suit around in days. There is no sales tax, so the price agreed is the price paid.

  • Dubai

For a fast suit at a fair price

Established ateliers make suits in two to six weeks for a fraction of London prices, and the luxury houses of The Dubai Mall cover the top end. Ask how many fittings are included and where the suit is made.

  • Milan

    For the structured Italian line

Milan cuts the most structured suit in Italy, closer to London than to Naples, alongside the made-to-measure of the great Italian houses. Prices include VAT, which visitors from outside the EU may be able to reclaim.

Questions

Which city is best for a bespoke suit?

London, for the depth of its tradition: Savile Row houses cut a personal pattern and fit a suit three or more times. Milan and the best Hong Kong and New York tailors also make true bespoke. The right city depends on the cut you want, your budget and how much time you have.

Where is a bespoke suit cheapest?

Among the cities we rank, Dubai and Hong Kong have the lowest starting prices, from about $550 in Dubai and about $1,700 at the Shanghainese tailors of Hong Kong. A Savile Row two-piece starts at about $6,600.

Can I have a suit made while I am traveling?

Yes, if you plan the fittings. Hong Kong and Dubai can finish a suit in two to six weeks; London and Milan need two to three months. Several houses visit other cities for fittings, so ask before you book.

Are the prices comparable?

They are all starting prices for a two-piece suit, in US dollars. Taxes differ: prices in London and Milan include VAT, New York adds sales tax at checkout, Dubai charges 5% VAT and Hong Kong has none.

Why are scores not compared across cities?

Scores set the order within a city. A Savile Row suit and a Dubai suit answer different needs and budgets, so a score of 85 in one city is not a promise of the same suit as 85 in another.
