The 10 Best Tailors in Hong Kong (2026)

Hong Kong tailoring rests on two traditions: the Shanghainese tailors who arrived around 1949 and still cut bespoke suits in Central, and the fast tailors of Tsim Sha Tsui. These are the ten in the city setting the standard today, with what they charge and how long a suit takes.

W.W. Chan & Sons

Queen's Road Central, Central · Since 1948

W.W. Chan & Sons is the most closely reviewed of Hong Kong's Shanghainese bespoke tailors, and one of the few that still cut and make in the city. Chan Wing-wah, trained in Shanghai's "Red Gang" tradition, began making suits in Hong Kong in 1948 and opened his first shop on Cameron Road in 1960; his son Peter Chan took over in 1982. Head tailor Patrick Chu, with the firm since 1986, leads 12 tailors split between the eighth-floor shop on Queen's Road Central and a workshop in Kowloon. The standard jacket is lightly padded, though the shop adapts readily. Permanent Style put suits from $2,300 in 2020. It suits a first serious bespoke commission at well under half the price of London.

  • Shanghainese "Red Gang" lineage; making suits in Hong Kong since 1948
  • Cut and made in Hong Kong by 12 tailors, 10 of them in a Kowloon workshop
  • Head tailor Patrick Chu has been with the firm since 1986
  • Trunk shows in Europe, the United States and Singapore

The Anthology

K11 Musea, Tsim Sha Tsui · Since 2018

The Anthology is the best known abroad of Hong Kong's newer tailoring studios, built around a soft, relaxed line and a strong fabric selection. Buzz Tang, a Hong Kong creative who studied at the London College of Fashion, founded it in 2018 with Andy Chong, a pattern cutter and tailor whose workshop in mainland China makes the clothes. The cut draws on Florentine tailoring: an unpadded, slightly extended shoulder, wide lapels with a low gorge and open quarters. It offers bespoke, made-to-measure and ready-to-wear from a showroom in Central and a shop at K11 Musea, with stores in Taipei and Shanghai. Permanent Style gave bespoke suits from $4,000 in 2026. It suits clients who want an easy, modern suit and accept making in mainland China.

  • Founded in 2018 by Buzz Tang and tailor and pattern cutter Andy Chong
  • A soft, Florentine-inspired cut with an unpadded, slightly extended shoulder
  • Made in Andy Chong's workshop in mainland China, fitted in Hong Kong and at trunk shows
  • Bill Nighy wore one of its suits to the Academy Awards

Empire International Tailors

Mody Road, Tsim Sha Tsui · Since 1983

Empire International Tailors is one of the few Tsim Sha Tsui tailors that still cuts and sews every suit in Hong Kong, in a workshop that clients can watch through glass. Anthony Asaf founded the family business in 1983, and his sons Ummad and Azeem have since joined it. Five veteran tailors, led by head cutter Wai, who began at the age of 12, make fully canvassed suits with a slim, tapered line and lightly padded shoulders, in a structured British or softer Italian cut. In 2024 the firm left a shop of about 150 square feet for a larger showroom on Mody Road. Prices are not published. It suits clients who want a Hong Kong-made suit and are prepared to allow two weeks or more for fittings.

  • Cuts and sews every suit in Hong Kong, in a glass-walled workshop beside the showroom
  • Five veteran tailors led by head cutter Wai, who started at 12 (Vogue Hong Kong, 2025)

A-Man Hing Cheong

Bank of East Asia Building, Central · Since 1898

A-Man Hing Cheong is the senior name in Hong Kong tailoring: historian York Lo describes it as the city's oldest continuously running tailoring firm. Founded in 1898 on Queen's Road, it took its present name after a 1931 merger and spent 59 years in the Mandarin Oriental's arcade before moving, around 2022, to the nearby Bank of East Asia Building on Des Voeux Road Central. General manager Poon Ying-ko, who joined at 15, still runs the shop in his 80s. The cut is English and conservative, built on a full canvas in mainly Scabal and Holland & Sherry fabrics, and the clients named in print run from Richard Nixon to Li Ka-shing. No prices are published. It suits a traditional business or formal wardrobe.

  • Founded in 1898; described by historian York Lo as Hong Kong's oldest continuously running tailor
  • In the Mandarin Oriental's arcade for 59 years; in the Bank of East Asia Building since about 2022

The Armoury

Pedder Building, Central · Since 2010

The Armoury is a menswear shop rather than a tailor, and Permanent Style credits it with bringing many European makers to Hong Kong for the first time. Mark Cho and Alan See opened it on the Pedder Building's third floor in October 2010; since 2023 it has traded from the fifth floor, at the center of the Pedder Arcade, with a second, appointment-only room at the Carlyle Club in Rosewood Hong Kong. Its own tailoring, made by Ring Jacket in Japan, is sold ready-to-wear, made-to-order and made-to-measure by the shop's staff. Bespoke comes only from visiting tailors such as Liverano & Liverano of Florence. Tatler Asia put suits at $1,300 to $7,100 in 2020. It suits buyers who want a soft Italian or Japanese line without a bespoke commission.

  • Opened in the Pedder Building on October 20, 2010
  • Anchor of the Pedder Arcade, launched on the building's fifth floor in 2023
  • Made-to-order and made-to-measure in its own models all year
  • Bespoke only from visiting tailors such as Liverano & Liverano

Ascot Chang

Landmark Prince's, Central · Since 1953

Ascot Chang is a shirtmaker first, one of the few in Hong Kong that Permanent Style rates for bespoke shirts, and its suits are a smaller second line. Ascot Chang trained as a shirtmaker in Shanghai, moved to Hong Kong in 1949 and opened a shop under his own name in Tsim Sha Tsui in 1953; his son Tony and grandson Justin have since run the business. By the firm's account, its suit jackets are fully canvassed in wool and camel hair, with moderate padding, a roped shoulder and hand-padded lapels, and each client's paper pattern is kept. Suits cost from about $1,800 (2020 figure) and take one to two weeks in Hong Kong. It suits a client who already trusts its shirts and wants a quick, fairly priced suit.

  • Founded in Hong Kong in 1953 by Ascot Chang, a Shanghai-trained shirtmaker
  • Makes shirts for The Armoury and Bryceland's, according to Permanent Style (2026)
  • Suit jackets fully canvassed with hand-padded lapels, by the firm's own account
  • Shops at Landmark Prince's and Elements, plus New York and Shanghai

Jimmy Chen & Co

The Peninsula, Tsim Sha Tsui · Since 1948

Jimmy Chen & Co is a direct link to the Shanghainese tailors who reshaped Hong Kong's trade after 1948, and it still trades from The Peninsula's shopping arcade on Salisbury Road. Jimmy Chen, a native of Pudong, arrived that year and built a business that began at 12A Cameron Road and grew to eight shops; the historian York Lo lists Lyndon Johnson, Clark Gable and William Holden among its clients. Monocle called it one of the city's longest-standing bespoke tailors in April 2026 and reported that its lease in the arcade is secured for life. The firm has no website and publishes no prices, cutters' names or details of where its suits are made. It suits Peninsula guests who value continuity and will check those details in person.

  • Founded by Jimmy Chen, who came to Hong Kong from Pudong, Shanghai, in 1948
  • In The Peninsula's arcade, on a lease Monocle (2026) reports is secured for life
  • Clients have included Lyndon Johnson, Clark Gable and William Holden
  • Once ran eight shops, according to its manager in 2005

Bonham Strand

Hollywood Road, Central · Since 2012, by Jong Lee

Bonham Strand is a social enterprise as much as a tailor. Jong Lee launched it commercially in 2012, naming it after the Sheung Wan street where it was first based, with the aim of keeping Hong Kong's aging master tailors at work and training young apprentices, including rehabilitated drug users. Reuters counted eight tailors at the firm in 2015. Suits are cut and made in Hong Kong, now at a workshop and showroom on Hollywood Road in Central: a cutter chalks the pattern onto the fabric, and the client returns for at least three baste fittings. The firm publishes no suit prices, and its finished work has had little independent review. It suits clients who want a locally made suit and value the purpose behind it.

  • Launched in 2012 as a for-profit social enterprise
  • Suits cut and made in Hong Kong, according to the firm
  • At least three baste fittings, according to the firm
  • Trains apprentices alongside veteran master tailors

Sam's Tailor

Burlington Arcade, Nathan Road, Tsim Sha Tsui · Since 1957

Sam's Tailor is Hong Kong's best-known tourist tailor, famous for the photographs of presidents and pop stars on its walls and for a suit made in 24 hours. Narindas Melwani founded it in 1957 on a contract for British Army uniforms, according to the company, and it has traded from Burlington Arcade on Nathan Road ever since. His son Manu, appointed MBE in 2022, and grandson Roshan run the shop; Roshan's videos have built it a large following on TikTok and Instagram. Clients named in the press include Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, David Bowie and Russell Crowe. A two-piece suit starts at about $450 (company figure, 2026). It suits travelers who want a fast, inexpensive suit, and the visit itself, more than refined tailoring.

  • Founded in 1957 and at Burlington Arcade, Nathan Road, since it opened
  • Suits in as little as 24 hours, with two fittings
  • Manu Melwani appointed MBE in 2022
  • Clients have included Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and David Bowie

Jantzen Tailor

On Lok Yuen Building, Des Voeux Road Central · Since 1968, according to the firm

Jantzen is a Central shirtmaker that also makes suits, valued for speed and price rather than fine handwork. It works from the fifth floor of the On Lok Yuen Building on Des Voeux Road Central and gives 1968 as its founding date. Shirts are the draw: Localiiz (2019) praised the split yoke and long tails, and said a shirt can be ready in two days. For suits it stocks more than 1,000 fabrics and, by its own account, makes them in an in-house factory after a basted fitting; an older HK Magazine listing put a suit at about a week, with two or three fittings. No prices are published. It suits a visitor who wants good-value shirts quickly, with a straightforward suit alongside.

  • Shirtmaker in Central giving 1968 as its founding date
  • Split-yoke shirts that Localiiz (2019) said can be ready in two days
  • More than 1,000 suit fabrics, according to Honeycombers (2024)
  • Open seven days, until 8pm Monday to Saturday

How we rank

We judge every tailor on four things: the cut and construction, the fit and the fittings, the service, and its reputation over time. We draw on each tailor's history and published reviews, and our critics visit as clients, commissioning and wearing the work themselves. We update each list once a year.

How a score is built

A tailor that scores 9 for cut, 8 for fit, 9 for reputation and 7 for service earns 84 out of 100. Scores decide the order within each city; they are not compared across cities, because a Savile Row suit and a Dubai suit answer different needs and budgets. Every tailor in Hong Kong is scored the same way.

Bespoke in Hong Kong: your questions

How much does a suit cost in Hong Kong?

Less than in London or Milan, though few tailors publish prices. A W.W. Chan two-piece suit cost about $2,300 in 2020, and Ascot Chang's suits started at $1,800 the same year. Sam's Tailor says its suits start at about $450 (2026). Newer studios charge more: The Anthology's bespoke suits start at about $4,000 (2026). Hong Kong has no sales tax or VAT, so the agreed price is the price paid.

How long does a suit take in Hong Kong?

From a day to two months. Sam's Tailor can deliver a suit within about 36 hours, with two fittings, and Ascot Chang quotes one to two weeks. Bespoke takes longer: W.W. Chan's head tailor quotes about six weeks, and Empire International recommends allowing at least two weeks for two or three fittings. Reuters reported in 2015 that a shortage of skilled tailors had stretched some orders to 12 weeks.

Can I get a suit made during a short visit to Hong Kong?

Yes, if you order on the first day. Several Tsim Sha Tsui tailors deliver within a day or two, but the better tailors suit visitors who can spare a few extra days for fittings. For bespoke cut from scratch, plan to have the finished suit shipped, return for later fittings, or order at a trunk show: W.W. Chan visits clients in Europe, the United States and Singapore.

How do I avoid touts and poor tourist tailors in Tsim Sha Tsui?

Do not follow anyone who approaches you in the street. Choose a tailor before you arrive, or check the Hong Kong Tourism Board's Quality Tourism Services list, which requires clearly displayed prices. Before paying a deposit, get a written quote naming the fabric and its mill, whether the jacket is canvassed or fused, the number of fittings and the delivery date, and check the mill's name on the edge of the fabric.

Do I need an appointment?

For bespoke, it is best to book. W.W. Chan works from an eighth-floor shop on Queen's Road Central, and The Armoury's room at the Rosewood is by appointment only. Most Tsim Sha Tsui tailors, including Sam's Tailor, take walk-ins.

What is the difference between bespoke and made-to-measure in Hong Kong?

Bespoke means a paper pattern drafted for you alone and several fittings, usually in a basted jacket; made-to-measure adjusts an existing pattern and needs fewer fittings, which is why it can be ready in days. Many Hong Kong shops call any suit made to order bespoke, and some send the sewing to mainland China. Ask whether a pattern will be cut for you, whether the jacket is canvassed, how many fittings are included and where the suit will be made.
