Thom Sweeney, the London tailor founded by Luke Sweeney and Thom Whiddett in 2007, opened a new flagship at 761 Madison Avenue in New York in June 2026. East Side Feed, citing WWD, reported the opening on 10 June. The two-floor store, between 65th and 66th streets on the Upper East Side, occupies the former Armani location and replaces the brand's SoHo shop.
Surface magazine described it as the brand's largest location outside London and its first flagship. Published figures for its floor area differ between reports. The founders met while working for the London tailor Timothy Everest; Whiddett, a co-founder, is also a bespoke cutter.
Tailoring downstairs, a bar upstairs
The ground floor holds the ready-to-wear collection and Sol's, a cocktail bar and lounge named after the late hotelier Sol Kerzner, Luke Sweeney's father-in-law. The lower floor is given over to tailoring and private consultations. Surface reported that Max Whitaker, a Savile Row-trained cutter, is in residence there for a year. Finishes include custom chrome fixtures, lacquered walnut, French limestone floors and vintage Sergio Mazza wall lights.

The store offers bespoke, made-to-measure and ready-to-wear clothing. According to WWD's report as cited by East Side Feed, it also carries a seven-piece bespoke collection available only in New York.
“The US has always been a big market for British tailoring.”
Luke Sweeney, co-founder of Thom Sweeney, to Elite Traveler
Why leave SoHo
Thom Sweeney opened its first US store at 362 West Broadway in SoHo in 2017, combining bespoke and ready-to-wear in one space. Speaking to Elite Traveler, Luke Sweeney compared foot traffic in the two neighborhoods: in ten minutes in SoHo, he said, a shop might see one or two potential customers, against about 30 on Madison Avenue. He also said clients want somewhere to spend time, and the store's bar and lounge are designed for that.
The move follows a period of expansion for the brand. It opened a by-appointment loft on Melrose Place in Los Angeles in 2024 and a boutique in the Miami Design District, and in October 2025 it joined its London townhouse at 24C Old Burlington Street to the building next door. It now has four stores: London, New York, Los Angeles and Miami.
What it means for buyers
For New York clients, the practical change is a Savile Row-trained cutter on site for a year. Many British tailors serve the US through trunk shows, with cutters flying in for measurements and fittings a few times a year. A resident cutter can see clients more often.
