How Much Does a Bespoke Suit Cost? Prices in London, New York, Milan and Dubai (2026)

One table, four cities, three tiers. What a two-piece suit costs in each city in 2026, in local currency, and what moves the price up or down.

By TailorGuideUpdated 10 October 202610 min read

A hotel room set up for a tailor's visit, with suit jackets on a rail and a swatch book on the desk.

The short answer

A bespoke two-piece suit costs roughly $6,600 to $9,900 to start at a Savile Row house in London, about $3,500 to $10,000 in New York, about $3,900 to $9,000 in Milan and about $2,700 to $10,900 at Dubai's luxury end (approximate 2026 ranges). Made-to-measure costs far less: about $1,100 to $3,300, $800 to $2,500, $1,000 to $2,800 or $650 to $2,700.

  • Savile Row houses published two-piece starting prices of about $6,600 to $9,900 in 2025.
  • New York bespoke runs about $3,500 to $10,000+, usually before 8.875% city sales tax.
  • Established Milan sartorie charge about $3,900 to $9,000+ for a bespoke suit.
  • Within any city, the house and the fabric move the price more than anything else.
  • Always ask whether a quote includes tax, fabric upgrades and every fitting.

How much does a bespoke suit cost? The honest answer depends less on the city than on what you are buying. A suit cut from your own paper pattern over three fittings is a different product from a factory suit adjusted to your measurements, and both are different again from a suit taken off the rail. Compare like with like and the four big tailoring cities line up more clearly than most price guides suggest.

Every figure below is an approximate range for a two-piece suit as of October 2026, in the currency you would actually pay. Prices are gathered from houses' published figures and recent reporting, and they move with fabric choice, house and exchange rates. Treat them as a planning guide, then get a written quote.

Bespoke suit prices by city: the 2026 table

The table compares the three tiers most buyers weigh up in each city. Bespoke means a pattern cut for you alone and fitted on your body. Made-to-measure means a standard pattern adjusted to your measurements and made in a factory. High-street means ready-to-wear from chain and premium high-street brands, before alterations.

What counts as bespoke, made-to-measure and high-street?

Price comparisons go wrong when the tiers are mixed up. Many shops in all four cities sell made-to-measure as bespoke or custom, so ask how the pattern is made before you compare quotes. Our bespoke vs made-to-measure guide covers the differences in detail.

Bespoke suit

A suit made from a paper pattern drafted for you alone by a cutter, built largely by hand with a canvas chest and refined over two to four fittings on your body.

Made-to-measure suit

A suit made from a house's existing block pattern, adjusted to your measurements and posture, usually made in a factory with one fitting or none before delivery.

The gap between the tiers is mostly labor. The Savile Row Bespoke Association, which sets the standard for its member houses, says a two-piece suit typically takes at least 50 hours of hand work. A made-to-measure suit takes a fraction of that because the pattern exists already and most seams are sewn by machine. Our guide to why bespoke suits are expensive breaks the hours down.

How much is a Savile Row suit? London prices

A Savile Row bespoke two-piece suit starts at about $6,600 to $9,900. Every established house listed in Luxury London's 2025 guide to the street published a starting price within that range. Premium fabrics, a waistcoat or a double-breasted cut push the total higher, and $13,200 is not unusual once you add them.

London suit prices by tier: the jump from made-to-measure to Savile Row bespoke is the widest in any of the four cities.

Below the Row's established houses sits a busy middle tier. Some firms on and around Savile Row sell suits cut from a personal pattern but with more machine sewing, from about $2,100 to $2,600 in 2025, and independent bespoke tailors across London charge in between. Made-to-measure from Savile Row names and premium brands runs from about $1,100 to $3,300. For the houses themselves, see the 10 best tailors in London.

How much is a custom suit in New York?

Full bespoke from a New York tailor who cuts a personal pattern costs about $3,500 to $10,000 or more. One New York tailor's 2026 price guide put bespoke at roughly $3,000 to $6,500+, often starting around $3,500, and a September 2026 survey of Manhattan custom tailors estimated that suits made from a true personal pattern cost anywhere from about $1,300 to more than $9,000. The wide spread reflects how loosely New York shops use the words custom and bespoke.

Savile Row and Italian houses also visit New York several times a year, taking orders and fittings in hotel suites and private rooms. They generally price in dollars at or above their home price. New York prices are usually quoted before sales tax, which in the city is 8.875% on clothing items costing $110 or more. Our New York bespoke guide explains how the market works.

How much does a bespoke suit cost in Milan?

A bespoke suit from an established Milan sartoria costs about $3,900 to $9,000 or more. Smaller workrooms charge less; the oldest names and special fabrics charge more.

Milan suit prices by tier: established bespoke starts below Savile Row, but the best houses overlap with London.

Italian prices to consumers normally include 22% VAT. Milan's style is cleaner and more structured than Naples', and the city also has plenty of made-to-measure from brands and mills. See Milanese tailoring explained for how to commission there.

How much does a tailored suit cost in Dubai?

In Dubai, a made-to-measure suit costs about $650 to $2,700 and luxury bespoke about $2,700 to $10,900. Arabian Business listed custom suit prices at Dubai and Abu Dhabi tailors starting between about $460 and $800, rising to $2,700 and beyond. A 2026 guide to UAE tailoring put made-to-measure from luxury brands in DIFC, the financial district, at $2,200 to $8,200, well above the usual range, and one luxury bespoke house at $2,700 to $10,900.

Dubai suit prices by tier: made-to-measure is cheap relative to the luxury end, which reaches Savile Row levels.

Dubai also has neighborhood tailors in older districts such as Satwa and Bur Dubai who charge mainly for labor, so the total depends on the fabric you choose. UAE VAT is 5%. Our guide to getting a suit made in Dubai covers timing and fabrics for the heat.

What drives the price of a bespoke suit in each city?

The same five things set the price everywhere. Their weight differs by city: rent and labor dominate in London and New York, while in Dubai the fabric is often the biggest single variable.

What moves a bespoke suit price, and by how much
FactorWhat changesEffect on price
HouseA centuries-old name with a large workroom versus a one-person tailorOften the biggest single factor
FabricHouse fabric versus premium wool, cashmere blends or rare fibersCan add 10% to well over 50%
ConstructionFull canvas and hand padding versus machine work and fusingSeparates bespoke from made-to-measure
FittingsTwo fittings versus four, or fittings at a trunk showExtra fittings raise labor cost
Tax and currencyVAT included or not; exchange rates for visiting houses5% to 22% depending on city

Construction is worth understanding before you compare quotes. A bespoke coat is built on a floating canvas shaped by hand, while cheaper suits use fused interlinings. Our guide to fused vs canvas construction shows what you are paying for.

What do you get for more money?

Each step up the price ladder buys more hand work and more fittings, and with them a closer, more personal fit. The biggest single jump is from made-to-measure to bespoke, because that is where a cutter starts drafting a pattern for your body alone instead of adjusting someone else's.

Most hand work and fittings

  1. Established bespoke house

Personal pattern, master cutter, 3 or more fittings, 50+ hours of hand work

  2. Entry bespoke and custom

Personal pattern, 2 or 3 fittings, more machine sewing

  3. Made-to-measure

Adjusted block pattern, factory made, 0 or 1 fitting

  4. High-street ready-to-wear

    Standard sizes, alterations extra

Least hand work

The four tiers from most to least hand work: price rises with the hours a cutter and tailor spend on your suit.

What you do not buy with more money is a guarantee of a better suit for you. A house whose cut you dislike will not make you happy at any price, and a well-chosen made-to-measure suit can serve a slim, regular figure very well. More money buys the ability to correct a sloping shoulder, a prominent seat or a forward head posture, which off-the-peg patterns cannot.

How long does a suit take in each city?

Time is part of the price. A bespoke suit from a house in your own city usually takes 8 to 16 weeks, and a first suit takes longer than later ones. Ordering from a house that visits your city stretches the timeline, because each fitting waits for the next trip.

Typical timelines by city and tier, approximate
CityBespoke, local houseBespoke via visiting houseMade-to-measure
London10 to 16 weeks, 3 or more fittingsNot applicable: the houses are here3 to 6 weeks
New York8 to 16 weeksOften 6 months or longer3 to 6 weeks
Milan8 to 16 weeksDepends on the house's travel schedule3 to 6 weeks
Dubai6 to 12 weeks at luxury housesDepends on the house's travel schedule2 to 4 weeks

Allow longer around the holidays and the wedding season, and for a first order, since later suits reuse your pattern. See our guide to how long a bespoke suit takes.

If you need a suit by a fixed date, tell the tailor at the first appointment and work back from it. Our guide to how long a bespoke suit takes explains where the weeks go.

Is it cheaper to buy a bespoke suit abroad?

Rarely by as much as you expect. Established houses price fairly consistently across markets, and visiting houses usually charge at least their home price in the local currency. The saving from a lower sticker price can vanish once you count flights, return trips for fittings, shipping and any import taxes.

Ordering from a house in another city

For

  • +Access to a house style you cannot get at home
  • +Some cities, such as Milan, have lower entry bespoke prices than Savile Row
  • +Many houses send cutters to your city for fittings

Against

  • –Fittings wait for the next visit, so a first suit can take six months or longer
  • –Shipping and import charges may apply to the finished suit
  • –Alterations later mean posting the suit back or waiting for a visit

Common mistakes when comparing suit prices

  • Comparing a starting price with a quote that includes a premium fabric.
  • Forgetting sales tax in New York, which is usually added at checkout.
  • Ignoring the cost of returning for fittings when ordering abroad.
  • Assuming the cheapest quote includes alterations after delivery.
  • Treating an older published price as current: houses review prices regularly.

What to ask a tailor about price

A good tailor will answer all of these without hesitation. If the answers are vague, the final bill may not match the quote. Our list of questions to ask a tailor goes further.

Before you pay a deposit

  • Is the price for a two-piece or three-piece suit?
  • Which fabrics are included at that price, and what do upgrades cost?
  • Does the quote include VAT or sales tax?
  • How many fittings are included, and where do they take place?
  • How much is the deposit, and when is the balance due?
  • Are alterations after delivery included, and for how long?
  • Will a second suit cost less once the pattern exists?
  • If the suit is shipped, who pays shipping and import charges?

Once you know your budget and tier, choose the house by its cut, not its price: a suit you love wearing at the top of your budget is better value than one you tolerate at the bottom. Start with the 10 best tailors in London or browse all city rankings.

Questions people ask

How much is a Savile Row suit?

A Savile Row bespoke two-piece suit starts at about $6,600 to $9,900, based on houses' published 2025 starting prices. Premium fabrics, a waistcoat or extra details can take the total to $13,200 or more. UK prices to private customers normally include 20% VAT.

How much does a made-to-measure suit cost?

A made-to-measure suit typically costs about $1,100 to $3,300 in London, $800 to $2,500 in New York, $1,000 to $2,800 in Milan and $650 to $2,700 in Dubai (approximate 2026 ranges). Entry-level made-to-measure in New York starts at around $400. The fabric you choose moves the price most.

Which city is cheapest for a bespoke suit?

Among London, New York, Milan and Dubai, Milan's entry bespoke prices sit below Savile Row's, and Dubai's made-to-measure tier is relatively inexpensive. At the top end, established houses in all four cities charge broadly similar amounts. Count the cost of returning for fittings before choosing a city for price alone.

Do bespoke suit prices include tax?

In London and Milan, prices to private customers normally include VAT at 20% and 22% respectively. In New York, 8.875% city sales tax is usually added at checkout on clothing items of $110 or more. UAE VAT is 5%, so ask whether a Dubai quote includes it.

Is a bespoke suit cheaper at a trunk show?

Usually not. Visiting houses generally charge at least their home price in the local currency, and some add a premium for travel. The benefit of a trunk show is access to the house without flying to its city.

Why is there such a big gap between made-to-measure and bespoke?

The gap is mostly skilled labor. A bespoke suit is cut from a personal pattern and typically takes at least 50 hours of hand work, according to the Savile Row Bespoke Association's standard, while made-to-measure adjusts an existing pattern and is largely machine-made. Fittings and a hand-shaped canvas add further cost.

How long does a bespoke suit take?

A bespoke suit usually takes 8 to 16 weeks with two to four fittings when you live near the tailor. Ordered through a visiting house, a first suit can take six months or longer because each fitting waits for the next visit. Made-to-measure usually takes three to six weeks.
