Dege & Skinner's strength is formal and ceremonial dress. When a cavalry officer needs a frock coat or a Sandhurst cadet needs mess kit, this is where the order tends to go. The firm made Prince Harry's Blues and Royals frock coat for his 2018 wedding, Prince Louis's uniform for the 2023 Coronation and officers' uniforms for the Yeomen of the Guard, work recognized by a Royal Warrant from King Charles III in 2024. Its specialist ceremonial uniform makers were trained by the firm.

Ownership is a large part of its character. Jacob Dege founded the business in 1865, and the Skinner family, which acquired it in 1947, still runs it from 10 Savile Row, its home since 1989. Michael Skinner, the chairman, turned 90 in the firm's 160th anniversary year; William Skinner is managing director; and Nicholas De'Ath, head cutter from 2016, is now creative director. It is one of the last family-owned firms on the street.

For civilian clients the cut is traditional and structured, with a strong shoulder line and narrow, cavalry-cut trousers. A two-piece suit takes about 55 hours of hand work, needs at least two fittings and arrives in about 12 weeks. The firm does not publish bespoke prices, but Luxury London put the starting figure at $7,300 in 2025, among the lower starting prices on our list. Bespoke shirts, made at No. 10 since 1994, are a sensible first commission.

Choose Dege & Skinner for morning dress, black tie, uniforms or a conservative city suit. Clients who want a soft drape or a fashion-led silhouette are better served by Anderson & Sheppard or Edward Sexton. It also opens on Saturdays, which helps visitors in London for a weekend.
