Tailoring in London
The home of Savile Row
London is where the modern suit was refined, and Savile Row, a short street in Mayfair, is still the world's reference point for bespoke tailoring. Its houses cut a paper pattern for each client and build the garment by hand over several fittings.

How tailoring works in London
The Row's tailors are not all alike. Some cut the soft, roomy 'drape' that made English tailoring famous; others build a sharper, structured silhouette with a military heritage. Several of the best newer houses sit just off the Row, on Old Burlington Street, Sackville Street and in Marylebone.
Expect to pay $6,600 or more for a bespoke suit and to wait around two to three months, with at least three fittings. In return you get a garment cut for your body alone, and a pattern kept on file for every suit after.

How London compares
Compare the cities in detailTailoring in London: your questions
How much is a Savile Row suit?
A fully bespoke two-piece at an established Savile Row house typically starts around $6,600, and rises with the fabric and detailing. Some houses offer made-to-measure from around $1,100.
How long does a Savile Row suit take?
Usually around 8–12 weeks with three or more fittings. One modern house quotes about 10 weeks and 80 hours of hand-work.
Do I need an appointment?
Yes for bespoke. Most houses welcome visitors to browse, but book a consultation for measuring.
Can overseas clients order?
Yes. Many houses run regular trunk shows abroad, especially in the US, and keep your pattern on file.
What's the difference between drape and structured cuts?
Drape cuts (like Anderson & Sheppard) use a soft shoulder and extra fullness across the chest for ease. Structured cuts (like Huntsman) use firmer canvas and padding for a sharper, more architectural line.
