The Armoury matters to Hong Kong tailoring less for what it makes than for whom it brought. From its first room in the Pedder Building in 2010, it gave European houses such as Liverano & Liverano of Florence and Musella Dembech of Milan a regular base in the city, and Simon Crompton of Permanent Style credits it with introducing many tailors Hong Kong had not seen before. Its first bespoke partner, by its own account, was W.W. Chan.

The tailoring a client can order on any day is the shop's own, made by Ring Jacket in Japan. Staff take made-to-order and made-to-measure orders all year, adjusting an existing fitting garment for posture, sleeve pitch and sloping shoulders; the shop does not draft individual patterns. The Neapolitan firm Orazio Luciano visits twice a year to fit made-to-measure clients. Tatler Asia put suits at $1,300 to $7,100 in 2020, a range that runs from ready-to-wear to visiting bespoke, with delivery in two to nine months.

Bespoke is available only when a visiting tailor is in town. Liverano & Liverano takes orders and holds fittings at the Pedder shop, and Tatler listed Musella Dembech, Ciccio of Japan and the Naples trouser maker Ambrosi among the visitors in 2020. Their work is cut and sewn abroad, and the South China Morning Post reported in 2023 that bespoke trunk shows had grown fewer since the pandemic.

Choose The Armoury for made-to-measure in a soft Japanese or Italian line, or to meet a Florentine or Neapolitan tailor without traveling to Italy. It is not a Hong Kong tailor in the way W.W. Chan is: nothing is cut or sewn on the premises. Clients who want a pattern drafted for them and a suit made in the city should look to the Shanghainese tailors on this list.

Questions

Does The Armoury make bespoke suits in Hong Kong?

Not itself. Bespoke is offered only through visiting tailors at trunk shows, such as Liverano & Liverano of Florence, and their suits are made abroad. The Armoury's own tailoring is sold ready-to-wear, made-to-order and made-to-measure.

How much does a suit cost at The Armoury in Hong Kong?

The shop does not publish Hong Kong custom prices. Tatler Asia put suits at $1,300 to $7,100 in 2020, from ready-to-wear to visiting bespoke. In New York, Permanent Style listed made-to-measure suits from $3,150 in 2024.

Who makes The Armoury's own suits?

Ring Jacket, a Japanese maker founded in 1954, produces The Armoury's own-label tailoring. Made-to-measure starts from an existing fitting garment, which staff adjust for posture, sleeve pitch and shoulder slope.

Where is The Armoury in Hong Kong, and do I need an appointment?

The main shop is the Pedder Arcade, 501 Pedder Building, 12 Pedder Street, Central, open Monday to Saturday 11am to 7.30pm and Sunday 12pm to 6pm; no appointment is needed. A second room at the Carlyle Club in Rosewood Hong Kong, Tsim Sha Tsui, opens by appointment. Appointments are strongly encouraged for trunk shows.

Which tailors visit The Armoury in Hong Kong?

Recent trunk-show pages list Liverano & Liverano for bespoke and Orazio Luciano, which visits twice a year, for made-to-measure. Tatler Asia also named Musella Dembech, Ciccio and the trouser maker Ambrosi in 2020.
