Tailoring in Dubai

Fast tailoring, from Bur Dubai to DIFC

Dubai's suit trade began in Bur Dubai, on the creek. Pitamber Parmar arrived from Bombay in June 1956 and opened a tailor's shop near the Juma Masjid; his family still runs the business, and in 2006 it opened Bespoke, an atelier for fully bespoke work, at The Gate in DIFC. Meena Bazaar and Satwa remain the city's districts of fabric merchants and quick, inexpensive tailors, while newer ateliers serve DIFC, Jumeirah and the towers of JLT, and the luxury houses take made-to-measure orders in The Dubai Mall, where Zegna has traded since 2009 and Brioni opened in 2025.

How tailoring works in Dubai

Speed and price set Dubai apart. Most of the tailors on this list deliver in two to six weeks, and bespoke at the established ateliers has started at about $550 to $1,100, a fraction of a Savile Row price. The word bespoke needs care: many shops use it for any suit made to order, and the founders of Knights & Lords said in 2015 that many Dubai tailors make most of a suit by machine from a preset pattern. Ask whether a pattern will be cut for you alone, whether the jacket is canvassed or fused, and how many fittings are included.

What a suit costs in Dubai

These are starting prices for a two-piece suit, and the fabric changes the final figure. The UAE charges 5% VAT, which visitors may be able to reclaim if the tailor is registered with the tourist refund scheme. Several figures are older press reports, so ask each tailor for a current quote.

Tailoring in Dubai: your questions

How much does a suit cost in Dubai?

Far less than in London, though few tailors publish prices. Collars & Cuffs lists bespoke suits from $850 and The White Stripes entry bespoke from $750 (2026); Knights & Lords lists bespoke suits from $550 (2026), and Parmar's Bespoke started at about $1,100 in 2015. Luxury-brand made-to-measure costs several times more: about $10,000 for Brioni in 2023.

How long does a suit take in Dubai?

Two to six weeks at the tailors on this list. Santoba quotes 10 to 14 days, Collars & Cuffs about three weeks and Parmar's Bespoke about four, while M2M suggests six to eight weeks, and three to four months for a wedding suit. Neighborhood tailors in Bur Dubai and Satwa can work in days; allow at least three to four days and two fittings.

Can I get a suit made during a short visit to Dubai?

Yes, if you order early in the trip. Do not leave it to the end of a visit: a good suit needs at least three to four days and two fittings. The White Stripes says it can fit visitors twice within seven days, and Santoba offers an express service of five to seven days. For bespoke with three fittings, plan a return visit or ask whether the tailor will ship the finished suit.

Can visitors reclaim UAE VAT on a suit?

Often, if the tailor is registered with Planet, which runs the UAE's tourist refund scheme. Visitors aged 18 or over who live outside the UAE can reclaim the 5% VAT on purchases of at least $70 taken out of the country within 90 days of the invoice. Validate the purchase at a Planet counter or kiosk before checking in, with the suit in your luggage, and leave within six hours. The refund is 87 percent of the VAT minus a small fee per transaction, about $35 on a $800 suit. Many small tailors are not registered, so ask before ordering.

Do I need an appointment?

For the ateliers, yes. Knights & Lords sees clients by appointment, and Bespoke, M2M and the luxury houses in The Dubai Mall take bookings by phone or online. Collars & Cuffs and The White Stripes will also measure and fit clients at home or in the office.

What is the difference between bespoke and made-to-measure in Dubai?

Many Dubai shops use bespoke for any suit made to order. Strictly, bespoke means a pattern drafted for you alone, a canvassed jacket made largely by hand and several fittings; made-to-measure adjusts a standard pattern and can be ready in days. Ask whether a pattern will be cut for you, whether the jacket is canvassed and how many fittings are included.
