Finding a tailor in Dubai is easy; finding the right kind of tailor takes a little more thought. The city has busy neighborhood tailors in its older districts, custom shops in malls and business districts, luxury houses in the financial center, and London houses that fly in to see clients. Prices run from well under $100 for alterations to more than $10,000 for bespoke, and the climate changes what a good suit is made of.

How does the Dubai tailoring market work?
Dubai's tailoring market has four layers, and each one suits a different budget and timeline. Most frustration with Dubai tailors comes from expecting one layer's results at another layer's price.
Neighborhood tailors
Neighborhood tailors work in older districts such as Satwa, Karama and Bur Dubai, including the Meena Bazaar area, and many are run by tailors from South Asia. Satwa is known for budget tailors and fabric shops, and Bur Dubai's tailoring trade goes back at least to the 1950s. They are quick and inexpensive, charging mainly for labor, and many will make up fabric you bring. Quality varies from shop to shop, so judge the work, not the sign.
Custom shops in malls and business districts
Custom and made-to-measure shops in malls, Downtown, Business Bay, Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Beach Residence sit in the middle of the market. Arabian Business listed starting prices at Dubai and Abu Dhabi custom tailors of between about $460 and $800, with suits rising to $2,700 and beyond, and some send tailors to your home or office for measurements. Many describe their work as bespoke; ask how the pattern is made.
Luxury houses and brand made-to-measure
The top of the market clusters in DIFC, the city's financial district, and in the luxury malls. A 2026 guide to UAE tailoring put brand made-to-measure there at about $2,200 to $8,200 and one luxury bespoke house at $2,700 to $10,900 per suit. Expect premium Italian and English fabrics, more hand work and several fittings.
Visiting Savile Row and Italian houses
Some London and Italian houses visit the Gulf to take orders and hold fittings. Dege & Skinner, for example, lists Dubai and the Middle East among the places it visits regularly. You get a full bespoke suit in a London or Italian house style, priced like the house's home market, with fittings spread across its visits.

| Tier | Price | What you get |

How long does a tailor take in Dubai?
A Dubai tailor can take anything from a few days to three months, depending on the layer you choose. Neighborhood tailors are the fastest. A real bespoke suit with basted fittings needs six to twelve weeks, because the pattern is corrected on your body between fittings.
| Route | Fittings | Typical time |
|---|---|---|
| Neighborhood tailor | 1 or 2 | A few days to about 2 weeks |
| Custom and made-to-measure shop | 1 or 2 | About 2 to 4 weeks |
| Luxury bespoke | 2 or 3 | About 6 to 12 weeks |
| Visiting Savile Row or Italian house | 2 or 3, on separate visits | Several months |
Approximate. Busy periods, fabric that must be ordered from Europe and extra fittings add time.
What fabric is best for a suit in Dubai's heat?
The best suit fabrics for Dubai are light, open-weave wools of about 7 to 9 oz (220 to 280 g), wool-mohair blends, and linen or linen blends. Summer afternoons regularly pass 104°F (40°C) with humidity near the coast, while offices, malls and cars are air-conditioned. You need a fabric that breathes outside and does not feel flimsy in a cold meeting room.
Scale from 180 g to 450 g, with oz below. Dubai summer: 220 to 280 g. Winter and indoor wear: 280 to 340 g. Too warm for Dubai: 340 to 450 g. A good first Dubai suit: at 250 g.
| Fabric | Weight | Why it works | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| High-twist open-weave wool | 7 to 9 oz (220 to 280 g) | Breathes well, resists creasing, springs back | Can feel slightly crisp at first |
| Tropical worsted | 7 to 9 oz (220 to 280 g) | Smooth, smart and light | Creases more than high-twist wool |
| Wool and mohair blend | 7 to 9 oz (220 to 280 g) | Cool, with a slight sheen; holds its shape | Sheen is less suited to daytime casual wear |
| Linen and linen blends | 8 to 10 oz (250 to 310 g) | The coolest feel in dry heat | Wrinkles quickly; less formal |
| Cotton | 8 to 10 oz (250 to 310 g) | Soft and casual | Holds sweat and creases; less formal |
| Polyester-rich blends | Any | Cheap and crease-resistant | Traps heat and sweat; avoid for Dubai |
Color helps too: mid and light gray, light navy, tan and stone reflect more sun than charcoal or black. Our guides to suit fabric for hot weather, linen suits and staying cool in a suit go further.
How should a Dubai suit be built?
Build a Dubai suit to let heat escape. Ask for a half lining or a quarter lining in the jacket, a light canvas rather than a heavy one, and little or no shoulder padding. A soft, Neapolitan-style shoulder works especially well; see Neapolitan tailoring explained. Trousers can be lined to the knee or left unlined.
Can you bring your own fabric to a Dubai tailor?
Yes. Many neighborhood tailors will make up fabric you supply, and some customers buy suiting in Satwa's fabric shops or Meena Bazaar, or bring a length from abroad. It can save money and lets you choose exactly what you want, but it puts the responsibility for quantity and quality on you.
- Buy enough. A two-piece suit usually needs about 3½ to 3¾ yards (3.2 to 3.5 m) of fabric in a standard 59-inch (150 cm) width; ask the tailor before you buy, and allow more for a waistcoat, a large check or a tall figure.
- Check the selvedge. Branded suiting has the mill's name woven along the edge. A missing or misspelled name is a warning sign.
- Feel the weight. Hold the fabric up to the light: a summer suiting should feel light and slightly open, not dense.
- Agree the labor price separately. Get the making charge in writing, including lining, canvas and buttons, so the total is clear.
How to brief a tailor in Dubai
A clear brief protects you from the most common Dubai problems: vague prices, the wrong fabric and a rushed fit. Agree everything in writing before you pay a deposit.
Five steps to a good Dubai commission
- 1
Say where and when you will wear it
Outdoors in summer, in air-conditioned offices, or for evening events in the cooler months. This sets the fabric weight and lining.
- 2
Bring references
Bring photos of suits you like, or a jacket that fits you well, and point out the shoulder and length you want.
Tip: A tailor who can copy a well-fitting jacket's balance will usually make a better first suit than one working from measurements alone.
- 3
See the fabric and its label
Ask to see the fabric on the bolt, with the mill's name woven into the selvedge (the finished edge) if it is a branded fabric.
- 4
Get a written quote
The quote should name the fabric, list what is included (lining, canvas, number of fittings, alterations after delivery) and state whether 5% VAT is included.
- 5
Insist on a fitting before completion
Book at least one fitting on a partly made suit. If the tailor will not offer one, you are buying a guess.
What to check at a Dubai fitting
Before you accept the suit
- The collar sits against your shirt with no gap at the back of the neck.
- The shoulders are clean, with no dent or ripple below the shoulder seam.
- The jacket closes without pulling into an X around the button.
- The sleeves show about ¼ to ½ inch (6 to 13 mm) of shirt cuff.
- The trousers sit at the waist you asked for and break as agreed.
- The fabric is the one you chose, and the lining is the one on the quote.
- Seams and buttonholes are neat, with no loose threads.

Common mistakes when getting a suit made in Dubai
- Choosing a heavy winter worsted because it looked richer in the swatch book.
- Accepting a price without a written list of what it includes.
- Skipping fittings to save a few days.
- Assuming a shop that says bespoke cuts a personal pattern.
- Ordering a black or charcoal suit for daytime outdoor events in summer.

Questions people ask
How much does a suit cost in Dubai?
A made-to-measure suit in Dubai costs about $650 to $2,700 and a luxury bespoke suit about $2,700 to $10,900 (approximate 2026 prices). Neighborhood tailors cost less, with the price set mainly by the fabric. Check whether the quote includes 5% VAT.
How long does a tailor take in Dubai?
Neighborhood tailors can finish a suit in a few days to about two weeks, made-to-measure shops take about two to four weeks, and luxury bespoke takes about six to twelve weeks. A suit from a visiting Savile Row house takes several months. Faster suits have fewer fittings.
Where can you get a suit tailored in Dubai?
Budget and neighborhood tailors are in older districts such as Satwa, Karama and Bur Dubai, including the Meena Bazaar area. Custom and made-to-measure shops are in malls and business districts such as Downtown, Business Bay and Dubai Marina, and luxury houses cluster in DIFC. TailorGuide's city rankings are published separately.
What is the best fabric for a suit in Dubai?
The best fabrics are light, open-weave wools of about 7 to 9 oz (220 to 280 g), wool-mohair blends, and linen or linen blends. Ask for a half lining, a light canvas and little shoulder padding. Avoid polyester-rich fabrics, which trap heat.
Is it cheaper to get a suit made in Dubai than in London?
Made-to-measure and neighborhood tailoring in Dubai cost much less than Savile Row bespoke. At the luxury end, Dubai bespoke at $2,700 to $10,900 overlaps with London's $6,600 to $9,900 starting prices. Compare like with like: a personal pattern and basted fittings cost similar amounts everywhere.
Do Savile Row tailors visit Dubai?
Some do. Dege & Skinner, for example, lists Dubai and the Middle East among the places it visits regularly. Fittings are spread across visits, so allow several months for a first suit.
Is VAT charged on tailoring in Dubai?
Yes, VAT in the UAE is 5%. Some tailors quote prices including VAT and some add it at the end. Ask before you agree the price.
