Michael Andrews Bespoke is a clothier first and a workshop second. Its strength is the appointment: a first visit of about 90 minutes, a library of more than 30,000 suiting fabrics and stylists who guide the client through every detail. There is no signature cut. For bespoke, the firm drafts a pattern for each client, tests it in a muslin before cutting and lets the client set the line.
The model has grown. Michael Andrews, a Georgia Tech engineer and former King & Spalding lawyer, founded the business in 2006 after failing to find suits that fit. Twenty years on it runs studios in Great Jones Alley and on East 53rd Street, holds trunk shows across the United States and in London, and makes everything from tuxedos to jeans, swimwear and womenswear.
Know what you are buying. The firm says each bespoke garment is made in its own workshop by a single tailor, sewn largely by hand, but it does not say where. In 2017 He Spoke Style reported that patterns were drafted in New York and the garments cut and sewn at a workshop the firm owns in Shenzhen, China, then returned to New York for fitting and finishing. At $2,995, full bespoke here costs well under what New York's bench tailors charge, and the result is closer to a well-made personal-pattern suit than to one cut and sewn by a single tailor in Manhattan.
Choose it for value, choice and service across a whole wardrobe, or for a first custom suit at a clear price. Those who want a distinctive cut and a suit sewn in New York should look at J. Mueser's Mayfair line or Alan Flusser's Heritage make.

Questions
How much does a Michael Andrews Bespoke suit cost?
Full bespoke suits start at $2,995, handmade-to-measure suits at $1,995 and made-to-measure suits at $995. Bespoke tuxedos start at $3,295. The fabric you choose changes the final price.
Is Michael Andrews Bespoke true bespoke?
Its bespoke suits start from a pattern drafted for the client, tested in a muslin fitting, and are sewn largely by hand by one tailor in the firm's own workshop. The firm does not say where that workshop is; in 2017 He Spoke Style reported it was in Shenzhen, China, with patterns drafted and final fittings done in New York. Its made-to-measure adjusts an existing pattern and uses a floating half-canvas.
How long does a Michael Andrews suit take?
A first bespoke suit takes 10 to 12 weeks, and later bespoke orders about six to eight weeks. Made-to-measure takes six to eight weeks. A four-week rush is often available for a fee.
Do I need an appointment?
Yes. Both studios see clients by appointment only, Monday to Saturday from 10am to 6pm, and a first visit lasts about 90 minutes. The NoHo studio is entered from the south side of Great Jones Street through a gate with an intercom, not from Bond Street.
Are alterations included?
Bespoke garments get free alterations for three months after collection. Made-to-measure garments get one free round of alterations within two weeks of delivery. The firm does not alter clothing made elsewhere.
