The short answer

A Bangkok tailor can make a wedding suit or tuxedo in two to four days, but grooms should allow about a week, or order on an earlier trip, so there is time for extra fittings. Tuxedos start from about $235 to $355 at our ranked tailors in 2026. Guests at a Thai wedding should wear bright or pastel colors and avoid all-black.

  • Tuxedos start from about $235 to $355 at our ranked Bangkok tailors (2026).
  • Allow about a week in Bangkok for a wedding suit, not the minimum two to four days.
  • Cut every groomsman's suit from the same fabric, measured together if possible.
  • At a Thai wedding, guests wear bright or pastel colors and avoid all-black.
  • For beach weddings, choose linen, cotton or light wool in pale colors.

Thailand is a popular place to marry and an easy place to have a wedding suit made. Bangkok tailors make suits and tuxedos in days, wedding parties can be fitted together, and the same trip can include the ceremony on a beach or in a hotel ballroom. The main things to get right are timing, fabric for the heat and, for guests, the colors that suit a Thai celebration.

Should the groom wear a suit, a tuxedo or Thai dress?

Let the time of day and the venue decide. For a daytime or outdoor ceremony, a lounge suit in navy, mid gray, light gray or tan looks right and stays comfortable. For an evening reception in a hotel, a tuxedo or a dark suit is the formal choice. In the tropics, an ivory or white dinner jacket with black trousers is a classic alternative to an all-black tuxedo; our guide to dinner jacket colors explains when it fits.

If one partner is Thai, the families may hold a Thai ceremony in the morning and a reception in the evening. Some grooms wear Thai formal dress for the morning, such as a high-collared jacket in the raj pattern, and change into a suit or tuxedo for the evening. Ask the family what they expect. Our guide to mandarin collars and Nehru jackets covers how a high-collared jacket should fit.

Fabric and color for a wedding in the heat

Choose a light, open wool of about 220 to 280 g (7 to 9 oz) for a suit you will wear outdoors, and ask for a half lining. Wool and mohair blends are crisp, hold their shape through a long evening and have a slight sheen that suits formal wear. Linen and linen blends are the coolest choice for a beach, but they crease, which some grooms like and others do not. Navy and mid gray suit an evening; light gray, tan and ivory suit sun and sand.

How far ahead should you order a wedding suit in Thailand?

A Bangkok suit takes two to four days, but a wedding leaves no room for a missed fitting, so build in time. There are three good ways to plan it.

  • Arrive about a week early. Start the suit on your first day in Bangkok, have two fittings and collect it with days to spare.
  • Order on an earlier trip. Have the suit made on a visit months before, and the tailor keeps your pattern for any changes or for groomsmen's orders.
  • Order at a trunk show. Peninsula Bespoke Tailor holds trunk shows in Europe, the United States and Australia, and Narry Bespoke Tailors in the US, Europe and Asia, so you can be measured at home and fitted again later.
  1. Stage 1: Plan

    2 to 3 months before

Agree the dress code with your partner; book a week in Bangkok

  2. Stage 2: First visit

    Day 1 in Bangkok

Fabric, style, measurements and written quote; order a trial shirt

  3. Stage 3: Fittings

    Days 2 to 4

One or two fittings; groomsmen measured and fitted together

  4. Stage 4: Collection

    Days 5 to 6

Final check with your wedding shoes; any last changes

  5. Stage 5: Wedding day

    Day 7 or later

Suit pressed, with a spare shirt for the evening

A groom's timeline with a week in Bangkok: the spare days at the end are the point, not a luxury.

How do you order suits for the groomsmen?

Choose one fabric for the whole party and ask the tailor to cut every suit from the same bolt, so the color matches in photos. Everyone should be measured in person if possible. Groomsmen who land a few days before the wedding can still be fitted, but they need two to four days, so book their first visits for the day they arrive.

Groomsmen order checklist

  • One fabric for all, cut from the same bolt.
  • One agreed style: lapel, buttons, vents and trouser front.
  • A clear difference for the groom, such as a waistcoat, a different tie or a lighter jacket.
  • First visits booked within a day of each person's arrival.
  • A group quote, with each person's deposit and balance clear.
  • One person named as the tailor's contact for the group.
  • Ties and pocket squares ordered at the same time, so they match.
  • Collection a day before the wedding at the latest.

Our guide to wedding suits for grooms covers matching the party, choosing colors by season and what to wear with the suit.

What should you wear to a Thai wedding as a guest?

Dress smart, bright and modest. Many Thai weddings have a morning ceremony, usually at the family home, often with monks giving a blessing and a water-pouring ceremony in which guests pour blessed water over the couple's hands. An evening reception follows, often in a hotel. Long trousers and a collared shirt suit the morning; a suit and tie suit the evening.

Read the invitation closely. If it names a color, men usually pick it up in a tie, a pocket square or a shirt. If it does not, choose a lively but tasteful palette: navy or gray suits with pink, light blue, gold or green ties. Avoid an all-black outfit, which many Thai families associate with mourning. Black trousers and shoes are fine, but skip a black shirt or tie, and a white shirt is fine under a suit.

  • Long trousers and a collared shirt; a jacket is optional
  • Bright or pastel colors, or the theme color
  • Shoes come off indoors, so wear easy shoes and good socks
  • Modest and respectful; no shorts

Often in a hotel ballroom

  • A suit, usually with a tie
  • Navy, mid gray or a lighter summer suit
  • Pick up any theme color in the tie or square
  • Air-conditioned, so a wool suit is comfortable

A few customs help too. Take your shoes off when you enter a Thai home or the room where monks are seated, and dress so you can sit on the floor comfortably. A gift of money in an envelope is customary at many Thai weddings. For dress codes at Western weddings, see our guide to wedding guest attire.

What should you wear to a beach or hotel wedding in Thailand?

Dress for the setting and the season. A beach ceremony calls for linen, cotton or light wool in pale colors, with loafers and an open collar unless the couple asks for ties. A hotel ballroom is air-conditioned, so a normal wool suit or tuxedo is comfortable. Thailand's coasts have different rainy seasons, so check the month before you choose fabric and shoes.

What should you tell your Bangkok tailor about the wedding?

Five things to tell your tailor

  1. 1

    The date, time and venue

An outdoor afternoon and an air-conditioned evening need different fabrics and linings.

  2. 2

    Your role

Groom, groomsman or guest. The groom's suit can carry a detail the others do not, such as a peak lapel or a waistcoat.

  3. 3

    A working lapel buttonhole

Ask for a lapel buttonhole that opens, so a flower can be worn properly.

  4. 4

The shoes and shirt you will wear

Bring them to the fittings so the trouser length and sleeve length are right.

Tip: For French cuffs, bring the cufflinks too.

  5. 5

    When you need it

Set the collection for a day or two before the wedding, and ask for a garment bag and a final press.

Tuxedos start from about $235 to $355 at our ranked Bangkok tailors in 2026, and suit an air-conditioned evening reception.

Questions people ask

How long does it take to have a wedding suit made in Bangkok?

A Bangkok tailor can make a wedding suit in two to four days, with one or two fittings. For a wedding, allow about a week in Bangkok so there is time for an extra fitting and any last changes. Grooms short of time can order on an earlier trip or at a tailor's trunk show abroad.

How much does a tuxedo cost in Bangkok?

A tuxedo starts from about $235 to $355 at the tailors on TailorGuide's Bangkok ranking in 2026. The fabric sets the final price, and wool-mohair or luxury fabrics cost more. Some tailors include a dress shirt in the price.

What should men wear to a Thai wedding?

Men at a Thai wedding should wear long trousers and a collared shirt for a morning ceremony, and a suit and tie for an evening reception. Bright or pastel colors are welcome, and if the invitation names a color, wear it in your tie, pocket square or shirt. Avoid an all-black outfit.

Can you wear black to a Thai wedding?

Avoid head-to-toe black at a Thai wedding, because many Thai families associate it with mourning. Black trousers and black shoes are fine, but choose a white or colored shirt and a cheerful tie rather than black. Navy, gray and lighter suits are the easiest choice.

What should a groom wear for a beach wedding in Thailand?

A groom at a Thai beach wedding is most comfortable in a linen, linen-blend or light wool suit in ivory, tan, light gray or pale blue, with loafers and a half-lined jacket. For an evening reception, an ivory dinner jacket with black trousers is a classic tropical alternative to a black tuxedo.

Can groomsmen be fitted if they arrive just before the wedding?

Groomsmen can be fitted by a Bangkok tailor if they arrive at least two to four days before the wedding and book their first visit for the day they land. Ask the tailor to cut every suit from the same fabric bolt so the colors match in photos.

When is the best time for a beach wedding in Thailand?

For a beach wedding on Thailand's Andaman coast, such as Phuket or Krabi, the drier months run from about November to April. On the Gulf islands, such as Koh Samui, the wettest months are usually October to December. Seasons vary from year to year, so plan for some rain.
