In this guide

For more than half a century, travelers have flown to Bangkok to have a suit made. The trade took shape in the 1960s and 1970s, when tailoring families from India and Nepal opened shops for American servicemen near the air bases of the northeast and then moved to the capital, and many of those families are still cutting suits today. What draws visitors now is the same as then: a suit cut from a pattern made for you, in a wide choice of fabrics, at a fraction of the price in Europe or the US, and ready in days rather than months. Here is how it works and how to plan it.

How does getting a suit made in Bangkok work?

Most Bangkok tailors follow the same rhythm. On the first visit you choose a fabric from the books, settle the style and are measured. The tailor drafts a paper pattern from those measurements and cuts the fabric the same day. You come back a day later for a fitting on the partly made suit, sometimes a second fitting the day after, and then collect the finished suit or have it delivered to your hotel.

  1. Stage 1: First visit

    Day 1, about an hour

Choose the fabric and style, get measured, and agree the price, the fittings and the collection date.

  2. Stage 2: Pattern and cutting

    Day 1

A paper pattern is drafted from your measurements and the fabric is cut.

  3. Stage 3: First fitting

    Day 2

You try on the partly made suit, and the tailor marks changes to balance, length and shape.

  4. Stage 4: Second fitting

    Day 3, if needed

The nearly finished suit is checked again. Some orders need only one fitting.

  5. Stage 5: Collection

    Day 3 or 4

A final try-on and pressing, then you collect the suit or it comes to your hotel.

The usual Bangkok rhythm: one visit to order, one or two fittings, then collection, all within two to four days.

Each suit is cut for one person. At Manchester Tailor BKK, every suit is hand-cut from the client's own paper pattern; at King Fashion Uni in MBK Center, each bespoke suit is cut from an individual pattern with a full canvas; and Jesse & Son on Sukhumvit Soi 10 cuts its patterns by hand and runs horsehair canvas to the lapels. A canvas is the layer inside the chest that shapes the jacket and helps the lapels roll.

Starting prices for a two-piece suit, or the package named, in 2026, converted at about 34 baht to the dollar (November 2026). The fabric you choose sets the final price.

The fabric is the biggest variable, followed by the construction and the details you add. Our Bangkok suit price guide breaks prices down by garment, from shirts and trousers to tuxedos and overcoats, and explains how packages work.

How long does it take to get a suit made in Bangkok?

Most Bangkok tailors need two to four days for a suit, with one or two fittings. Several offer an express service: Peninsula Bespoke Tailor, Nordic Bespoke and Manchester Tailor BKK make a suit in 24 hours, and Tailored By Luis in 24 to 48 hours. At the other end, Rajawongse Clothier, family-run since 1961, takes about a week for a suit, with two to three fittings.

More days means more fittings, and each fitting is a chance to refine the fit. If your trip allows three or four days, use them. If you only have one, our guide to the 24-hour suit in Bangkok explains how an express order is scheduled.

What fabric is best for a suit in Bangkok's heat?

Bangkok is hot all year. Average daytime highs run from about 88°F (31°C) in December to about 95°F (35°C) in April, humidity is high, and most rain falls from May to October. For a suit you will wear in the city or in hot summers at home, choose an open-weave or high-twist wool of about 7 to 9 oz (220 to 280 g), linen or a linen blend, or a wool-mohair blend.

Many visitors, though, are making suits to wear at home, in offices or in cold winters. Choose the fabric for where you will wear the suit, not for the weather in Bangkok on the day you order it.

Scale from 180 g to 450 g, with oz below. Bangkok and hot summers: 220 to 280 g. Year-round at home: 280 to 340 g. Cold winters: 340 to 450 g. A good Bangkok suit: at 250 g.

Suit fabric weight by where you will wear it: the lightest band suits Bangkok and hot summers, the middle band suits year-round office wear at home.

What happens at a fitting in Bangkok?

At the first fitting you try on the suit before it is finished. The jacket may be held together with loose white stitches, with sleeves or collar not yet fully attached, so the tailor can open and move seams. Stand naturally, move your arms, sit down and say what feels tight or loose. Wear or bring the shoes you plan to wear with the suit, because heel height changes where the trousers break.

At the first fitting the jacket is only loosely assembled, so the tailor can still move seams and change the shape.

What to check before you accept the suit

  • The collar sits against your shirt collar, with no gap at the back of the neck.
  • The shoulders are smooth, with no dent or ripple below the shoulder seam.
  • The jacket buttons without pulling into an X around the button.
  • The sleeves show about ¼ to ½ inch (6 to 13 mm) of shirt cuff.
  • The trousers sit at the waist you chose and break as agreed over your own shoes.
  • The fabric and lining are the ones named on your order.

Our guide to your first fitting explains each point and what to say to the tailor.

Do Bangkok tailors offer hotel pickup?

Yes, and it is one of the pleasures of having a suit made here. Peninsula Bespoke Tailor, on Silom Road since 1969, offers a complimentary private chauffeur service. Nordic Bespoke and Narry Bespoke Tailors offer free hotel pickup, Tailored By Luis offers free hotel and airport pickup, Manchester Tailor BKK sends a complimentary private car, and Rajawongse Clothier arranges hotel pickup on request.

Some tailors come to you instead. King Fashion Uni offers free hotel fittings and delivery, Unique Tailor makes free hotel visits, and Galaxy Tailor delivers the finished suit free to your Bangkok hotel. Ask when you book, and give your hotel's name and address.

How to plan your tailor visit

Five steps to a suit you will love

  1. 1

    Message ahead

Contact one or two tailors before you fly with your arrival date, your flight home and what you want made. They can plan fittings around your stay and arrange a pickup.

  2. 2

    Bring references

Bring a favorite suit or jacket that fits you well, photos of styles you like, and the shoes and shirt you plan to wear with the new suit.

Tip: A jacket you already love tells the tailor more about the fit you want than any description.

  3. 3

    Choose fabric from the books

Look through the fabric books, feel the samples and ask what each one costs. Say where and when you will wear the suit, so the tailor can suggest the right weight.

  4. 4

    Get a written quote

Before you pay a deposit, get the price in writing, with the fabric named, the number of fittings and the collection date.

  5. 5

    Collect a day early

Plan to collect the suit at least a day before your flight, so any final adjustment can be made in time.

For day-by-day plans for trips of two days to a week, see how to plan a tailor visit in Bangkok.

Can a Bangkok tailor ship a suit home?

Carrying the suit home is the simplest choice. Ask the tailor for a garment bag, pack the suit last and hang it as soon as you arrive; our guide to packing a suit shows the folds. If time runs short, many Bangkok tailors can send a finished suit abroad by courier, and our guide to shipping a suit from Thailand explains the options.

Can you order again from home?

Often, yes. Once a tailor has your pattern, a second suit is easier to make, so ask whether you can reorder by message and have it shipped. Some tailors also travel: Peninsula Bespoke Tailor holds trunk shows in Europe, the United States and Australia, and Narry Bespoke Tailors, family-run since 1977, holds them in the US, Europe and Asia.

Is Bangkok a good place to have a suit made?

Yes. Bangkok has been one of the world's favorite places to have a suit made for more than 50 years. A bespoke suit there is cut from a pattern made for you, costs far less than in Europe or the US, and is usually ready within days.

What should I bring to a tailor in Bangkok?

Bring a suit or jacket that fits you well, photos of styles you like, and the shoes and shirt you plan to wear with the new suit. Know your flight time, so the tailor can plan your fittings and collection around it.

What is the best suit fabric for Bangkok's weather?

For wear in Bangkok's heat, choose an open-weave or high-twist wool of about 7 to 9 oz (220 to 280 g), linen or a wool-mohair blend, with a half lining. If the suit is for an office or winter at home, choose a heavier year-round wool instead.

Will a Bangkok tailor pick me up from my hotel?

Many will. On our Bangkok list, Peninsula Bespoke Tailor, Nordic Bespoke, Tailored By Luis, Narry Bespoke Tailors and Manchester Tailor BKK all offer complimentary pickup, and Rajawongse Clothier arranges it on request. King Fashion Uni and Unique Tailor will also come to your hotel.

Can I order another suit from a Bangkok tailor after I go home?

Often you can. A Bangkok tailor who has made your pattern can usually make another suit from it, so ask about reordering by message and shipping. Peninsula Bespoke Tailor and Narry Bespoke Tailors also hold trunk shows abroad.
